Richard D. Turner, Jr.
Richard D. Turner, Jr., 82, of Porter, IN, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. Beloved husband of Eleanor (Robinette) Turner; dear father of Michele Davis and Marc (Carey) Turner; loving grandfather of Jack, Corinne, Rachel and Hailey; brother of Janne Turner and Susan Turner. Preceded in death by his parents, Richard D. Turner, Sr. and Jane (Lily) Turner.
Dick was a 1958 graduate of Crown Point High School, a 1962 graduate of Yale University and completed his MBA at the University of Michigan.
At Yale, Dick lived in Welch Hall freshman year, and the next three years in Trumbull College, majoring in Russian studies. He spent most of his career in the banking industry working with The First National Bank of Chicago, the U.S. Small Business Administration, and later at The Shorebank Corporation. He established the first lending program for small businesses in post-communist Poland. During his time at Shorebank in the 1990s and early 2000s, he established the European Bank for Reconstruction and Developmentās initial lending effort in Russia in 1994. Dick also spent time in Uganda assisting in the creation of private banking systems there. He was a Director of the U.S.-Russia Investment Fund, a Director of Delta Far East Leasing based in Vladivostock, Director and Chairman of the Board of The Center For Entrepreneurship, based in Moscow.
Dick was both a great storyteller and an avid reader with an impressive book collection. He was also a devoted Cubs fan and loved his daily hikes in the Indiana Dunes.
