Yale 62

Paul F. Rose

April 10, 1940 – April 10, 2020

Born in Erie, PA April 10, 1940, Paul was the son on Donald and Helen Ruth McGaughey Rose. After graduating from Erie East High School, Paul joined our class with the intention of being an Engineering major.

Unfortunately, he discovered that majoring in Engineering was more difficult than he’d anticipated. As he did not maintain the high average the scholarship he had received from his community expected, and because his parents could not afford to keep him at Yale, he reluctantly withdrew. He went on to graduate from Edinboro University, Edinboro, PA with a major in Secondary Education.

What was Yale’s loss became the gain of the graduates of Harborcreek Senior High School (Harborcreek, PA), where he taught Mathematics and Physics for 35 years. By 1966, he had earned an MA in Mathematics at Illinois University. He did keep his fingers in the engineering field; during the summers he joined others in working on the challenges of new construction projects.

Paul married Patricia A. Meade on August 24, 1963. They had a son and daughter, and at the time of his passing, four grandchildren. Attending the grandchildren’s sporting events joined sailing on Lake Erie and woodworking as pastimes he particularly enjoyed in retirement.

Pat Rose said that Paul very much enjoyed his classmates and activities at Yale, and stated that he often mentioned one classmate from Westchester, NY who had invited him to his house. When in Connecticut many years later, Paul detoured to New Haven to show Pat proudly and excitedly the various haunts of his year there.
