WILLIAM GRAVES SACKETT

Born: May 31, 1939
Died: March 21, 2005

William G. Sackett was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, son of Paul Edmunds Sackett and Elizabeth Graves Sackett. He graduated from Episcopal High School, Alexandria, Virginia.

Bill Sackett was with our class for only one year, 1958-1959. He roomed with Hank Truslow in Farnam. Hank remembers him as a very shy and retiring young man who did not become involved in any aspects of Yale life other than his classes during his short time in New Haven.

After he left Yale, Bill received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Richmond and his Master's in Art History from the University of Kentucky. He was a sports writer for the Lexington Herald Register and also an art historian.

Bill was particularly devoted to the Virginia Center for Creative Arts which he served for many years as a member of the Board of Directors. He created a generous endowment at the Center for scholarships to enable gifted artists to attend.

Bill was a member of the Boonsboro Country Club and St. John's Episcopal Church.

Bill served his country in the United States Coast Guard.

He was survived by his son Zachary of Frankfort, Kentucky and his brother Paul Edmunds Sackett, Jr. of San Rafael, California.
