David E. Richards
Born: July 29, 1940
Died: February 23, 1976
David Richards was born in Cleveland. Ohio. He graduated from the University School, Shaker Heights, Ohio. Although he entered with the Class of 1962 in September 1958, an illness in the spring of 1962 forced him to discontinue his studies. Dave was a French major, Ranking Scholar, on the Dean's List and a member of the WYBC board. He graduated in June of 1963 as a member of Ezra Stiles, but shortly thereafter in a letter to classmate Bob Rogers requested affiliation with the Class of 1962 and admission to "all the rights and privileges thereto appurtenant."
Despite the legalistic language of that request, Dave was actually not a lawyer but a doctor. He attended the Western Reserve University Medical School in Cleveland and graduated with his M.D. Degree in 1967. He served in the United States Navy as a doctor at St. Albans Naval Hospital in New York.
Dave had a most distinguished career in neurosurgery. He was on the staff of the University Hospitals in Cleveland and was an Associate Professor at the Medical School of Western Reserve in Neurosurgery at the time of his death.
Dave died February 23, 1976, at the age of 35. He was married to the former Nancy Bliss Lane (Wellesley College '63) in 1967 but they had no children.
