PETER STUART MCDOUGALL

Born: December 2, 1940
Died: January 19, 2017

Peter McDougall was born in Newark, NJ, son of Archie and Margaret Wright McDougall. He attended Kearny (N.J.) High School, and graduated from Bernards (N.J.) High School.

At Yale Peter majored in Industrial Administration. He was a resident of Pierson College where he competed in baseball, swimming, touch football and basketball. He sang in the freshman chorus and with the Apollo Glee Club.

After graduation Peter earned an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania. He worked as an administrator at Wharton, then as a System Program Analyst for the State of New Jersey. In 1980 he earned a J.D. from Rutgers Law School and practiced general law in Moorestown, NJ, until his retirement in 2008.

Peter married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Hamilton, in 1962. They had 2 sons, Scott and Gregory. Although he and Nancy divorced, they remained lifelong friends.

In our 50th Reunion Book Peter described his hobbies as "banjo, golf, planning and postponing home projects, reading, and TV sports." He was a loyal attendee at class dinners in New York and at our class reunions. Peter’s good humor and outgoing personality enlivened our reunions. Many will no doubt recall his singing and banjo playing in gatherings around the piano until late into the reunion nights. In the words of his twin sister Janet, "Peter loved his years at Yale and was a loyal Yalie throughout his life". "He was," she said, "an avid reader with a thirst for knowledge and an absolutely brilliant mind who loved to entertain and to debate with his sense of humor and extremely quick wit."

Peter was active with the Yale Alumni Schools Committee, interviewing high school students in South Jersey for 30 years. He also served as a Class Agent for Pierson, "thanks to Charlie Mills, who caught me at a weak moment," he wrote in our 2002 Reunion Book.

Peter was in good health until three years ago when he was seriously injured in an auto accident. His former wife Nancy was his primary caregiver during a long convalescence. He had made good progress and was looking forward to attending our 55th Reunion this year when he unexpectedly passed away at his home on January 19, 2017.

Peter is survived by his son Scott and granddaughter Laura of Annapolis, Maryland; his son Gregory of Miami Beach, FL; his sister Janet of New York City, his brother Alan of Bedford, NY; his former wife Nancy of Maple Shade, NJ; and many nieces and nephews.

Pete was missed at the 55th Reunion.
