PAUL RICHARD JOHNSONBorn: September 10, 1940 Paul R. Johnson was a New Haven native, one of 6 graduates of Hillhouse High School to join our class. He was the son of Sonniel and Ethel Joyce Cushin Johnson. At Yale Paul was a member of Saybrook College, served on the College Council and was president of its Debate Club. He was a member of the Freshman Debating Society and of the Intercollegiate Debating Association, serving as president 1961-62, his senior year. He roomed with Larry Lipsher, Ralph DeYoung, and Terry Culver freshman year and in Saybrook with Neil Kornzweig. After graduation Paul attended Yale Law School, earning his LL.B. in 1965. He subsequently studied tax in an advanced program at New York University Law School and settled in New York City. Paul practiced law with the firm of Cahill Gordon & Reindel until 1968 and then was employed at Standard Brands in Manhattan. He continued to work for that company until shortly before his death. Paul never married. He died of congestive heart failure May 4, 1996. Unfortunately, Paul did not keep in contact with the AYA or the Law School or many of his classmates. Information on his career after Yale was provided by his cousin Elizabeth C.
