Jeffrey H. Woodward
April 21, 1940-May 2, 2022
Son of Van Doren and Dorothea Harris Woodward, Jeffrey Harris Woodward, joined this world on April 21, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio but grew up in Katonah, NY, a community he later wrote about. He attended Katonah High School and the neighboring Berkshire School before joining our class in 1958.
At Yale he lived and flourished in Davenport College. Jeff was a member of the Ivy Network and majored in English. The major sparked his interests and led to his to earning a PhD from The University of Pennsylvania in English, a degree he parlayed into 29 years as a professor at Albright College.
For 36 years he taught American literature courses and developed and shared his interests in fiction, film and politics. When not on campus, Jeff engaged in his passions for gardening and cycling. Upon retirement he joined the Unitarian Universalist church where he received support for his advocacy of political and social justice reform.
In 1970 he married Dr. Ann Myers and together they raised two daughters, Katherine and Elizabeth Woodward, in and around Reading, PA. In addition, Jeff was survived by two granddaughters, Evelyn and Honour, and his two sisters Dinah Feinberg and Holly Woodward. Jeff will be remembered for his wit and charm, in addition to his academic prowess.
