Allen R. Overmyer

Allen Overmyer was born in Payne, Ohio on September 25, 1940. He died on June 15, 2021 in Edgewater, Florida. After graduating from Yale University in 1962, Allen obtained Masters Degrees from Northwestern University and the University of Maryland. He enlisted in the US Army and became a Lieutenant in the 3rd Infantry in Germany for three years. After a brief stint in the CIA, he began his career as a Foreign Service Officer for the State Department. Over the next seventeen years, Allen had the opportunity to work with many well-known figures, including Secretaries of State Henry Kissinger and Cyrus Vance and General Alexander Haig, the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe. He was stationed overseas on various assignments for substantial periods, including in Israel and Belgium. Allen received several awards from the State Department for his service.

Allen lived in Arlington for most of his life. There, he met and married Adele Breese, the love of his life, in 1991. He was a beloved figure in the lives of her sons, Michael Richards and David Richards, and his four grandchildren, Jonathan, Kelly, Jenna, and Vance. He is also survived by his brother, Ed, and sister-in-law, Mary Jane Overmyer and their family. Allen was devoted to his family and he was proud to have served his country for over 20 years. Services previously held.

(JS) I knew him in the Yale Glee Club and found him extremely pleasant and his voice even in a day when there were many operatic quality voices his lyric baritone was specially handsome.
