PETER HAMMOND MADDEN

Peter H. Madden was born in Greenwich, Connecticut, son of James Holmes Madden and Elsie Kubbe Little. His stepfather was Henry Adams Ashforth, Yale College Class of 1923, and his step-brother H. A. Ashforth was a member of the Class of 1952. Peter prepared for Yale at the Hotchkiss School.

At Yale Peter was a resident of Davenport College where he played on the hockey team. He rowed on the freshman and J.V. crews earning his numerals and "Y" with crossed oars. A member of Fence Club and of Scroll and Key, he was a history major.

After Yale Peter earned his LL.B. degree for University of Virginia Law School in 1965. He served in the U. S. Army.

Peter practiced law for some years with the law firm of Davis Polk & Wardwell in New York.

Peter was ill for many years and unable to return to his law practice. He died in Rye Brook, New York. He is survived by his sister Christina Madden Whitman of Manhattan and his niece Elizabeth Whitman. His brother Michael Jay Madden predeceased him.

Classmates Ken Cascone and Al Ogden remembered Peter from his New York days prior to his illness and both graciously supplied information for this obituary note.
